Studio Calico Crop Sketch

Hey everyone!  Lovely Thursday to you!  Today I'm sharing my take on a sketch that Studio Calico put up as part of the SC Crop for CHA-W.  I don't do a lot of sketches, other than the mid-week mojo when I am able to, so it was fun to tackle a sketch and stretch myself to make it my own.

When I first got my Copper Mountain kit from Studio Calico - the VERY first thing I decided was that I needed to do some layouts of my husband using the kit.  I don't have a whole lot of boy-ish supplies in my stash having two little girls, so when these earthy colors came in the kit, I knew they would be perfect for a page about my hubby.

I wasn't sure where I wanted to go with the layout as I started putting it together, but then he got absolutely amazing news earlier this week and so the layout took on that bend - talking about and celebrating his good news.

Really adore this wood veneer circle cut that came in the kit - So I left it whole and filled it with paper, stamps, enamel dots, chipboard, puffy stickers ... basically anything from the kit that worked plus some items from my stash.  It makes sure your eye gets drawn up to the photo.  I also finally managed to use a dear head on a page.  I actually have always liked the trend, but that didn't mean I was just going to put it on everything and anything - I finally felt like here it made sense and worked.

This little label gave me a place to do a little stamping - and when I found this "Genius!" phrase on a new OA phrase stamp I decided it was perfect.  Another deer head (this time in small flair - which I just adore the smaller flair size SC has been putting out recently) - some enamel dots and a puffy heart completed the page.

I'm really really happy with how the layout came together - and am thrilled that I got to document such a monumental event!

I know I haven't announced the winner from the Practical Scrappers blog hop!  I will announce it tomorrow!
