Scrapbook Steals Jade 7

I learned something this week while completing my Scrapbooksteals.com Jade 7 layout.  It actually really surprised me when I realized it as well.  I struggle greatly scrapping with true primary colors - particularly red and yellow.  I have no problem with shades of yellow or red, but when you get to those how-we-teach-our-kids-colors I just have problems.  I feel like I struggle to keep my layouts from feeling too young when I include those colors.  I worked through it this week for the Jade 7 sketch though and I'm pleased with the layout.

This layout is also an entry for the Use It Tuesday challenge to use red, yellow or orange (yes, I am going to enter it despite all of my complaining about red and yellow!)

I did a few things on this layout to help me with my red and yellow issues.  First I stamped the black pattern across the yellow Sassafras paper to tone down the yellow a bit.  Then I added the blue strips around the photo that were inked with Faded Jeans Distress Stain, because they added a, well, distressed version of a primary color.  I also added the arrows with Mustard Seed Distress Marker, because again they repeat the yellow without being such a true color.

I also added the big black letters for the title because it gave some weight to the layout.  Still cute and fanciful for my silly girly, but I felt like it helped to balance the true reds and yellows.

My supply list included a bunch of products that I've had hanging around for awhile - particularly my paper choices: Echo Park Paper Country Drive and Dots and Stripes, Sassafras Nerdy Bird.  Wide ledger washi by Freckled Fawn, Studio Calico Stamps, Yearbook frame, and mistable Thickers.  American Crafts black thickers, My Minds Eye blue chevron washi and enamel dots.

Thanks for stopping by and check in tomorrow for my first featured layout with Kiwi Lane Designs!

  3. Great layout! You are not alone! Those true red and yellows were difficult for me too; however, I love the way your page ended up. The blue was a great addition and the thickers are just so cute! Thank you for sharing your talent with us at Use It Tuesday!
