I don't usually do many Christmas themed layouts. This year with my December journal I would imagine I"ll do even less than normal. But I still definitely want to do a couple of them - particularly since I have some fantastic Christmas papers from October Afternoon and Crate Paper.
With the most recent scrapbooksteals.com mid week mojo Jade #3 sketch, I decided to go with a layout of my Christmas tree. You can find the picture of the sketch on the scrapbooksteals blog
I tried a different method for choosing embellishments and cuts for this layout than my usual. I used the photos in a more "abstract" way and considered the shapes in the photos. This was fairly obvious I suppose - a Christmas tree is a large triangle, so I went with this triangle cut on my Silhouette and used some of the off cuts as well.
For the bottom of the box, I used Paisley Place in 3 layers. The Joy cut is also from my Silhouette and was an exclusive from Studio Calico's 25 Days class. I backed it with the gold script paper and added my title on top. My journaling is hidden behind the box. The red tag actually has the writing and the green tag I am using as a pocket for the smaller tag. Both were cut from Kiwi Lane Designs Tag Templates (misted with Mister Huey's in Peppermint and Mint Julep respectively).
The "All is Calm, All is Bright" sticker is from Crate Paper's Sleigh Rid, the other embellishments come from OA's Make it Merry and Holiday Style.
I really like how this layout turned out. I like the graphic and simple feel of it. I'm finding myself further considering my style and the layouts I most like. I"m realizing simpler is better in a lot of ways for me..
